60. "Where was Mrs Jeffrey and

Emily then?”
"They were both standing there directly in front of the window screaming, crying and shouting to those outside to get them out. The flames they were coming up through the floor by then. I managed to break out through the back window of their bedroom."
"What did you do then; where did you go?" said Dawson.
"I just ran as fast as I could to get away. I made it all the way down here, catching a sailing boat out of St. John’s. A few years later on I just had to tell somebody what had happened so since I couldn’t bring myself to tell Roseanne she was born outside of marriage I told Shanolla instead.”
"Just to make sure I have understood you properly. Are you telling me that Emily was standing behind Mrs. Jeffrey in front of the window and they were both trying to get out?"
"Yes, they were the last time I saw them."
"Was there anybody else in the house when you left?"
"No. Wait a minute; that strange man Orlowski was there earlier in the evening talking with Mr Jeffrey. He frightened me he did 'cos he was such a cold man."
"Did you see him leave?"
"No. But I was working down in the cellar and in one of the rooms."
"Is there anything else you want to tell me?"
"No"
“Don't forget, if there's anything at all my number is on this card."
"Thank you Mrs McCarthy you have been most helpful. That's all for now. I can guarantee that we will be getting back to you."
She's hiding something thought Corporal Dawson.
