It was as if they had never existed for her. Dawson believed she had disengaged from certain aspects of her past to such an extent and for so long that he believed they no longer existed for her. Instead she had found solace with her own Ukrainian people around her. Dawson arrested and charged her on the spot and she was now locked up in St John's.
Orlowski had been surprisingly easy to find and apprehend. He had remained in St John's; worked in a variety of jobs and played a useful part in the life of the Polish community on the island. It was at his suggestion, that the idea of a 1000 Polish settlement on Labrador was currently under consideration by the Provincial Government. He had denied he was anywhere near Jeffrey's house on the night of the murder. He said that it was so long ago now that he didn't have any idea of where he was or what he was doing at that time. Orlowski was also arrested and charged by Dawson. He never complained; he just went quietly and had seemed to have been waiting for the inevitable to happen.
The Coming Home Celebrations started off with church services, raising of the flags the idea of a time capsule and dances. It was a wonderful week for Richard who although he was unable to take part in everything because of the weight on his mind, he did keep a note of the sort of things that took place:
A fishing Derby, fish and brewis supper, dances, cemetery visiting throughout the day, a pond beach party, treasure hunt, barbecue, darts tournament, coffee and muffins at Wild Hotel, Christmas in July celebration, Mummuring, dinner and entertainments, a wedding celebration, tours of the area, a memorial run, plant a tree, teens of steel, family dance, meet a friend, the beer tent and finally the banquet and official closing.
