Eric felt like he had just started digging his own grave.
Cpl. Dawson eyed him up and down. He was going to enjoy this. Professionally speaking of course. In his full R.C.M.P. uniform he appeared terrifying to Wrigglesworth who was rapidly turning to jelly in his presence. Wrigglesworth was a spineless creature. Put under any sort of pressure he would crack and Dawson had quickly sensed that. "You understand you have to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?" said Dawson.
Wrigglesworth swallowed hard and timidly said, "Yes."
Dawson had already managed to make him feel he was on trial.
"Do you read the Bible? It is a good book you know. Do what the Bible would tell you Eric. Your Grandad, he was quite a man wasn't he?"
"What do you mean?"
"How would you describe him, what was he like?"
Wrigglesworth thought about what Dawson had just said. “Overbearing and pompous. I think he used to frighten people. That's how he got his own way."
"Is he still alive?"
"No"
"So, you have nothing to be frightened of?"
"I suppose you're right. I am the only surviving Wrigglesworth. I have nothing to be afraid of now"
"I want you to think very hard and tell me what you have been hiding all these years. Do you think you can do that?"
“I have been trying to protect the Wrigglesworth name."
